Peyroni's Disease
Have you had any experience with men with Peyronie's disease? (Scar tissue in the penis) I have had it for years, was in remission, for several years, and has recently reoccurred. I wish I lived closer to you, I have not really discussed this with anyone else and it has affected my interest and performance greatly.
When it was first diagnosed (89,90) I took daily doses of vitamin E (400 iu's), which was the only recommendation the urologist could give me at the time. The symptoms subsided in the early 90's and then didn't reoccur until this past year, only this time it is closer to the base and seemed more severe. More research on my part, only turned up the same recommendations, only this time what was suggested to take 1000 iu's daily which I started last year and now take 400 iu 2x a day.
I am now 58 yo so my interest level has waned and I have not thought much about the practice until I read your website and it actually aroused my interest in starting some of the exercises again and regained a bit of hope.
Thanks for any insights you might share.
Love, peace and blessings to you.
Mathew
Shanti's Response:
Hello and Goddess Blessings to You!
I am aware of your condition (Peyronie's Disease), but have not had to treat men who were severely impaired by either the curvature in the penis or the buildup of plaque.
Your problem seems to be that because the plaque has continued to build, your condition has worsened over the years, a very unfortunate circumstance. At this point, there are several options that you can explore with your urologist. I strongly advise you to try the least intrusive ones and leave surgery as a last resort.
Potassium Aminobenzoate
Potassium aminobenzoate is considered a member of the vitamin B complex and is believed to promote antifibrotic activity through its mediation of increased oxygen uptake at the tissue level. Although the sample of research (21 patients) is low, the significance of an 82% decrease in the deformity was significant. The treatment, however, seems rigorous and you need to consult your physician on this matter.
Corticosteroid Injection
The corticosteroid preparation used in the treatment of Peyronie's disease. A small syringe and a fine needle are used to inject the medication into the plaque and the tissues immediately adjacent to it.
Many of those sampled, reported some degree of improvement, ranging from moderate to complete recovery. The samples were between 31 and 42 patients. However, steroid injections are probably most effective during the initial formation of Peyronie's plaque, and success is limited with mature plaques. It would still be beneficial to discuss this with your doctor. I have included the reference article for you to take with you on your next visit.
Surgical Management
A number of surgical techniques are used for treatment of Peyronie's disease. The optimal surgical approach considers penile rigidity, degree of curvature, shaft narrowing and erectile response. One commonly used surgical technique, the Nesbit procedure, involves excision of the plaque accompanied by "patch grafting" of the defect left by the excision.
***Excision of the plaque has been associated with complaints of diminished rigidity of erection and impotence following surgery. These problems have been attributed to damage of the erectile nerves during penile surgery.
Penile massage may help either in combination with non-surgical treatment or after surgical treatment. Ask your physician about this also. Once treatment is deemed effective, there are some herbal formulas along with other practices that may help restore the sexual energy or interest you may have lost from this ordeal.
Let me know what is happening with you.....
