Ejaculatory Control
I was interviewed by HUSTLER MAGAZINE about the benefits of ejaculatory control. Here are some highlights of my response on this subject:
How is ejaculatory control technique used in SEX THERAPY?
I first want to explore why he is interested in learning ejaculatory control technique. I then rule out any possibility of physical or biological dysfunction by conducting an assessment based on medical and then sexual history. I need to know if there is any history of prostate cancer, tumors, etc.; accidents; I need to know if he is taking any type of medication - there are certain medications prescribed for anxiety and depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other disorders that can alter or inhibit sexual performance. If any preexisting conditions are assessed, he is referred to his physician, urologist or an endocrinologist for follow-up. I need to understand his individual sexual experiences with sexual pleasure and ejaculation: the age when he became sexually active and what his first experience was like. He needs to be able to tell me what he feels is "normal" for him in terms of pleasure and release and if something has changed.
If I assess that he is able to participate in sex training and coaching techniques, then we proceed first with full body massage. Tantra massage clears the body of blocks and stress and enables the sexual energy to flow much more freely. He is also more sensitized as a result of this massage. Once energetic clearing and balancing has taken place, I allow him to take himself to a high state of arousal so that we can begin practice.
What we are doing is learning to exercise a group of muscles, particularly the prostate and anal sphincter muscles, that have probably been weakened by too much sitting, poor diet, and lack of physical activity. We are also learning to coordinate the breath with muscular contractions that will eventually lead to semen retention and ejaculatory control. We are also strengthening the mind's ability to focus, stay in the present and experience the pleasure WITHOUT the goal of release.
Why do men seek this help?
For most men, sexual performance is intimately connected to their sense of manhood or wholeness. One man feels that the ability to extend sexual pleasure will cause his lover to desire him more. Another man has a genuine interest in learning to please his partner better. Another has experienced a decrease in his sexual performance and is searching for ways to regain his sense of adequacy. And yet another wants to practice "left-hand Tantra" and apply the practice of withholding to accelerate his spiritual development.
There are men who have true premature ejaculation disorders. They have been injured, suffer from weak or diseased prostate or are on medication that affects their ability to retain. The symptoms are sometimes coupled with inability to gain erection or a very quick state of arousal followed by immediate release. These individuals are normally under the care of a physician as they learn to use their sexual energy to heal and repair the body/mind.
What are some of the benefits of ejaculatory control?
Benefits include an increase in self-esteem and sexual performance. The men tend to look physically healthier; the skin tone is brightened, eyes are bright, hair looks healthier and muscles appear more toned. They report that their energy level is higher and their sense of well being is heightened. Some report that they have more harmony at home and on the job. They begin to take better care of themselves.
The spiritual benefits include a retention of conscious energy or divine energy, and a heightened sense of perception. He may also experience an expanded view of the world and a stronger sense of connectedness.
Eventually he learns to experience, "injaculation" or internal orgasm, which leads to longevity and youthfulness.
Should all men injaculate?
I support fully the practice of semen retention and injaculation if this is the man's desire. I do not support perpetuating a belief that all men should do this. Men who choose not to practice semen retention should not feel guilty. If their enjoyment is in pleasure through release then they can be encourage to use breathing technique, meditation, mantra and yoga to gain other physical and spiritual benefits. Ejaculatory control alone does not make a man spiritually or sexually superior.
